Floral Interactions was composed for the Shepherd School of Music’s 20/21 New Music Ensemble. The different timbres of the woodwinds, combined with the percussion, interact in such a way that they create a thick, almost orchestral texture, both cohesive and allowing for distinct voices to emerge. This seemed reminiscent to me of walking through a well-curated garden, where you feel this overwhelming sense of color and texture that seems complete, yet individual varietals are able to capture your attention depending on where your gaze is directed.
